Our Unique Teaching Approach

The Constraint-Led Method

Our cirriculum is a 52 week system encompassing all of the most important positions in jiu jitsu. At JM Modern Jiu Jitsu, we believe that learning jiu jitsu should be dynamic, practical, and deeply personalized. That’s why we employ a constraint-led approach to teaching—a method that’s rarely used in traditional jiu jitsu academies. Rather than relying solely on memorizing fixed techniques, we create scenarios and challenges that encourage students to explore movement, adapt, and solve problems in real-time.

By introducing specific constraints, such as limiting certain grips or focusing on positional control, students are gently pushed toward discovering the most effective solutions themselves. This builds adaptability, deepens understanding, and helps each person develop a unique style that suits their body and instincts. The constraint-led method isn’t about producing cookie-cutter jiu jitsu; it’s about helping every student become a creative, effective grappler who’s prepared for the unpredictability of real-life situations.

Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned competitor, our approach offers a fresh, engaging way to learn, setting our academy apart from the traditional mold.
